Police update 20 January 2020

Last night I attended an online PACT event with our local Police Constable Justina Lewis. PACT events (Police And Communities Together) are held all over the country and are regular forums for people to share concerns with local police and to receive update from the local Constabulary.

Three topics were discussed; local thefts, graffiti, and parking in Leigh Woods.

Local thefts -  someone arrested but there's still a problem
Justina updated us that there had been a spate of local thefts over the past few weeks and months. This appears to be mainly (but not exclusively) thefts from sheds and garages of things like bikes and tools. The advice as always to make sure that everything is locked up.

A couple of weeks ago a Bristol man (in the Muller Road, Ashley Down area) was arrested relating to some of these thefts. However the view is that the Police are still looking for someone else.

Graffiti - arrest made as previously reported
As previously reported an arrest has been made, apparently the police caught the person in the act!. No more details are available at the moment and the police are considering how best to proceed. Options include asking the individual clean the graffiti and/or contribute towards the cost of having it all removed.

Leigh Woods Parking - Covid violations
The situation in Leigh Woods continues to be problematic as people head there for their daily exercise. Anecdotal evidence is that people are gathering in groups that contravene the Covid restrictions. Last weekend the police attended for a couple of hours and spoke to visitors, this resulted in some people going home. The police are reluctant to issue fines except for the worst offenders. The police will continue to visit the woods for the next few weekends

The next PACT meeting is expected to be in March/April. It is open to any member of the public. I will put details of the meeting in my Newsletter, please sign up to keep informed about this and other local news.
