500 houses proposed for Failand

Proposals for a 40 hectare 500 house development in Failand announced

Residents in Failand, Wraxall, Flax Bourton, and parts of Long Ashton have started receiving promotional literature from Harrow Estates promoting the development of around 40 hectares of land around Failand. Although a planning application hasn't been submitted Harrow Estates are hoping that the sites will be included in the Local Plan being developed by North Somerset Council.

Targets set by central Government mean that 20,475 houses will have to be built in North Somerset over the next 15 years. The Local Plan is being developed to accommodate this growth. Without a plan in place areas previously protected would be more vulnerable to speculative development.

In addition to writing to residents Harrow Estates has set up a website, www.sustainablefailand.co.uk where further information can be found. It also hosts an initial survey and contact details of the developer.

In response to this proposal Failand and Wraxall Parish Council are planning to hold a public meeting in the first week of February where the developer will present their proposals, I will give the background in terms of the Local Plan, and there will be an opportunity to ask questions.
