Official opening of Ashton Court cycle route

Ashley Cartman • Jun 06, 2022

Cycle route officially opens after two year delay due to covid restrictions

The one kilometer route through Ashton Court, connecting Festival Way from Long Ashton to Bristol, makes it possible to cycle from Nailsea to Bristol without having to take in any main roads.

The popular cycle and walking route connects the gate to Ashton Court near Long Ashton Park & Ride to the UWE site at Kennel Lodge Road; avoiding the hilly Ashton Court Estate road up to the house, which can get overloaded.

Work on the route was completed by local contractors Safety Green Ltd with help from a group of volunteers who undertook vegetation clearance to open up views of the house. Ecological works were also completed, involving the planting of trees and hedges along with tree protection.

This route has been part of a bigger step to improve cycling facilities in North Somerset and Bristol. North Somerset Council and Sustrans have since contributed to the project with the construction of a signal controlled toucan crossing across the B3128 on Ashton Road last year. This has been brilliant in providing a safe crossing for all path users over the busy B3128.
