Significant increase in funding for North Somerset Public Rights of Way announced

For years all of us have enjoyed our local countryside. Around Long Ashton, Leigh Woods, Failand and Wraxall we have many beautiful walks, we are very fortunate.

The Coronaviris pandemic has brought many new visitors to our area to enjoy what we have had for years. Although we welcome others to enjoy our neighbourhood it has caused problems, not least with respect to parking and additional restrictions have been put in place at Leigh Woods, Failand, and Abbots Pool.

A Bristol Gate

That’s why as part of the Council’s annual budget I pushed for additional funds to allocated for maintaining, repairing, and improving public rights of way across North Somerset. This funding will go towards new styles, Bristol gates (picture opposite), bridges, path maintenance and cutting back vegetation.

We’ll also be doing more work with landowners to extend and link up more footpaths.

I shall be working with Long Ashton Parish Council as well as Wraxall and Failand Parish Council to ensure we get our fair share of funds. I'm particularly interested in seeing if we can get a formal footpath put in place between Wraxall School and The Grove. If you are aware of any issues on our footpaths please let me know and I'll make sure it's added to the list.
