Local elections in North Somerset next May......

At the beginning of May local elections were held across the UK. However, our local elections here in North Somerset will be held next year, May 2023.

I was elected for the first time in 2019 and it has been both an honour and a privilege to represent you. I have also enjoyed it tremendously and have decided that I will be standing again next year.

I represent the Long Ashton Ward which also includes Failand, Wraxall, and Leigh Woods. It’s a large area so you have two councillors representing you. This means at next Mays local election you get two votes. Stuart McQuillan is your other councillor and represents the Green Party, I am a Liberal Democrat.

Recent results in Somerset show the Liberal Democrats are again a force to be reckoned with in the West Country. The newly formed Somerset Council (a merger of 4 district council and Somerset County Council) is controlled by the Liberal Democrats who won 61 of the 110 available seats.

Across England as a whole the Lib Dems gained more seats than all the other parties put together. An amazing result that got very little coverage in the media due their ongoing obsession with the punch and judy show between Labour and the Conservatives.

Here in our area, you have traditionally been represented by Conservative Councillors. Indeed, 2019 was the first time ever that no Conservative Councillor was sent from the area to represent you at North Somerset Council.

I will be campaigning hard over the coming 12 months to be re-elected. To be successful I will need help. So, if you think you could display a poster, host a stake board, or even deliver leaflets please get in touch, there is lots to do. I look forward to hearing from you.

I'll help to get you re-elected
