Police enforce 'no left turn' into Leigh Woods

I received a number of complaints over the autumn of drivers using North Road to jump the morning queue to cross the suspension bridge. I contacted the Police to pass on your concerns and can now report that enforcement action has been undertaken.

We all know that between 7:30am and 9am each morning turning into North Road from the A369 is prohibited. Since the introduction of the clean air zone in Bristol there has been in increase in traffic crossing the bridge as some drivers seek to avoid the daily charge. The residents parking scheme has significantly reduced the amount of commuter parking in North Road, making it quicker and more tempting to use as a 'rat run'. It's not really surprising that more and more drivers are succumbing to temptation.

I contacted our local Police Sergeant who, after an early morning inspection, agreed with me that action needed to be taken. Before the Police could do anything vegetation needed to be cut back to make the sign clearly visible. This was duly done by North Somerset Council allowing and the Police have been enforcing the prohibition over the past couple of weeks.

I am told that dozens of 'traffic offence reports' have been issued. I hope that this will discourage those drivers who persistently use North Road as a rat run to jump the morning bridge queue. The Police Sergeant has said that they will continue with intermittent enforcement.
