Long Ashton in The Sunday Times for record house price rises

Ashley Cartman • Jul 26, 2021

Long Ashton one of only eight postcode areas in the UK where prices rose by more than £100,00 in a year.

In an article in yesterdays Sunday Times (25 July) the headline on the front cover of the Home section was 'Winning the Postcode Lottery. Revealed: the eight areas where house prices rose by more than £100,000'. Under a photo picturesque coastal village I expected it to be a mix of coastal villages and swish city centres. I wasn't expecting Long Ashton to be one of them.

Average UK house prices have risen by £21,389 over the past 6 months but based on research by GetAgent.co.uk the average house price in BS41 has risen from £419,895 to £524,895 in a year.

For those of us fortunate to be homeowners we've been earning over £8750 a month from rising prices. 'Earning' though is perhaps stretching it, we haven't really done anything for it.

For those of you interested in what The Sunday Times said about Long Ashton here is the text:

SOMERSET BS41

The village of Long Ashton, three miles from Bristol, is, like Kilmacolm, growing in popularity now that city-centre living is seen as less desirable. The village is about 2 miles in length with a pretty high street.

Lee Atherton, a regional director with Andrews estate agency, says:

"People in flats on the harbourside in Bristol city centre, with no outside room, are looking for more space; that coupled with two primary schools and a new academy means we have seen a 50 per cent uplift in sales in Long Ashton year on year. We have one property which was sold earlier this year for £1.25m which is now back on the market for £1.5m - and that's in just six months."
