£750k Great Lakes investment - Portishead, Clevedon, Weston

Ashley Cartman • Feb 12, 2021

This is the sort of thing I came into politics to do....

I am really pleased to announce a Great Lakes investment programme of £750k. Covering the Portishead Lake Grounds and the Clevedon and Weston Marine Lakes.

Below is my short (less than 3 minutes) video that I made to publicise the news. Please like the video it helps my YouTube ratings! Or you can read on below or even read the coverage in the North Somerset Times

We will dredge the Weston marine lake and investigate what other work is needed, which could include upgrading the sluice gates. With a fair wind we hope that it’ll all be ready for a Boxing day swim.

Clevedon Marine Lake is incredibly popular. Although we hope the restoration of Westons marine lake will help to manage demand it is clear that extra facilitates and investment is needed to cope with visitors. We will work with local organisation to assess what is needed and deliver.

The Portishead Lakes grounds have also suffered from years of underinvestment.

We will work in partnership with Portishead Town Council to draw up a long-term plan and investment strategy for rejuvenation, some of the buildings like the boat house, café, toilets need work and this is where we are likely to focus. However, as part we will also look to identify some ‘quick wins’, it’s important that residents see action
